Birstwith Net:

Birstwith Net currently consists of a wireless mesh network with a 2048 kbps download and 512 kbps upload connection - This is 4 times faster than a standard BT ADSL connection and up to 40 times faster than Dial Up access!

There are also several mesh boxes in High Birstwith, Birstwith and Hampsthwaite and various discrete antenna for subscribers to connect to the local wireless network. This mesh network will expand as more people want to join on.

We are assessing demand in Birstwith and Hampsthwaite to determine where to best locate any further mesh boxes. If you have a clear line of sight to any of these antenna or the tower of Belmont Grosvenor School, we can connect you today.

We now have a mesh box in the following locations:

• Around Home Farm Square, High Birstwith.
• Belmont Grosvenor School tower.
• Old Station Inn, Birstwith - you can connect anywhere in the pub or beer garden - ask Richard in the pub for details .
• Lynton - behind the Old Station Inn in Birstwith.
• Peckfield Close - Hampsthwaite.

If there is demand elsewhere in the villages, then we will add other mesh boxes and antenna when demand requires it.

For each connection, there are initial installation costs, together with ongoing running costs. The precise costs will vary with the type of connection chosen and your actual physical location and local conditions. However, as a guide, costs will be as follows and compare very favourably with other forms of broadband available in the urban areas:-

• Each household will also need extra kit to connect their PC to the network itself and this cost will vary from house to house but between £30 and £50, depending on your individual location.

Remember, that this internet connection does not require a phoneline so those of you with an extra line can get rid of it, saving you money on the second line rental.
